Jeranimo turns back Misremembered

Horse Racing

ARCADIA, Calif. -- Jeranimo bulled his way between horses and held off favored Misremembered to score an 11-1 upset in the Grade 2, $200,000 Strub Stakes on Saturday at Santa Anita.

Jeranimo ($24.80) benefited by the Strub being postponed a week. He was not entered in the race when it was originally carded because he had raced in the Sunshine Millions Classic on Jan. 30, in which he finished fourth in a troubled trip. But with an extra week, trainer Michael Pender and owner B.J. Wright decided to sign up for the belated Strub.

Martin Garcia rode Jeranimo, who won by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:47.83 for 1 1/8 miles on Pro-Ride. Acclamation finished third.

The win was only the third in 11 starts for Jeranimo, and his first stakes win.
