'All In' trounces in Sixty Sails

Horse Racing

Trainer Donnie Von Hemel and jockey Luis Quinonez, who teamed up to take the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap with Alternation earlier this month, snared another graded stakes triumph Saturday with the five-year-old mare She's All In, who made an emphatic statement in the Grade 3, $200,000 Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne. Seizing control at the top of the stretch, She's All In opened up a commanding lead and kept increasing her margin to the finish, crossing the wire 8 3/4 lengths in front. The 5-1 fourth choice in the field of six returned $12.80, $5.60 and $3.20.

The Sixty Sails field was strung-out for a good portion of the race, with Love and Pride up by as many as five lengths through splits of :23 3/5, :48 and 1:14. Tracking second down the backside was Beloveda, who at one point was seven lengths up on She's All In, who tracked in third by as many as four lengths over 6-5 favorite Arena Elvira. Even farther back were the longshots Distorted Love and One Last Dance.

The gaps became considerably shorter rounding the far turn as Beloveda and She's All In gained on the long-time leader. Arena Elvira also began to make progress, but came under a drive from jockey Jose Lezcano approaching the quarter pole and flattened out before reaching the stretch. Beloveda also came up empty rounding the final bend, while She's All In was looking much the best when she caught the tiring leader. Under hand encouragement, She's All In drew off and completed 1 1/8 miles in 1:51 3/5 over the fast main track.

Distorted Love, the 35-1 longest shot in the field, rallied from the rear to crash the exacta by 2 1/4 lengths over Arena Elvira, who only edged Love and Pride for third by a head. Beloveda and One Last Dance completed the order of finish. Afleeting Lady and Juanita were early scratches.

Winner of a $15,000 maiden claimer at Will Rogers Downs in her fourth career start, She's All In eventually rose to be among the leading Oklahoma-bred fillies of recent years, winning the Oklahoma Classics Distaff and the Ladies on the Lawn at Remington Park in 2010 and 2011. In open company, She's All In captured the River Cities on turf at Louisiana Downs last autumn, and placed in two editions of the Pippin and one of the Bayakoa at Oaklawn Park. She preceded this victory with a second-place effort in the Grade 3 Azeri at the Hot Springs, Arkansas, course. Her record now stands at 23-11-5-2, $590,622.

Bred in Oklahoma by owner Robert Zoellner, She's All In is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Peach Brew. Both were produced by the winning Hickory Ridge mare Georgia Ok, a full sister to multiple stakes winner Voladora and a half-sister to stakes winners Otro Mambo, Flying Mambo and Gigi's Skyflyer.
