Tap It Light takes Tokyo by storm

ARCADIA, Calif. -- The Santa Anita marathon division picked up a new shooter Saturday when Tap It Light scored a $21.60 upset in the Grade 3 Tokyo City Handicap , a mile and one-half race on the main track.

The win by Tap It Light came two weeks after a runner-up finish in a second-level allowance; trainer Mike Mitchell said afterward the 6-year-old gelding could make one more graded-stakes start at the meet.

"If he comes out of this race good, we could run in the San Juan," Mitchell said, referring to the Grade 2, 1 -mile turf race on closing day, April 18.

Tyler Baze rode Tap It Light, whose regular rider Joel Rosario opted for Rendezvous, who finished second in the Tokyo City. Eagle Poise set the pace and weakened to third; favorite Philatelist finished fourth.

Tap It Light, owned by Scott Anastasi, Dan Capen, and James Ukegawa, was claimed for $40,000 at Del Mar in 2008 at Del Mar. After winning his first start for Mitchell in September 2008, he was off until Jan. 10 2010. Tap It Light won his comeback in a first-level allowance for California-breds; followed by a runner-up allowance effort March 10.

A son of General Meeting, Tap It Light was winning for the eighth time in 26 starts.

The upset by Tap It Light helped confuse pick pick six bettors; the carryover into Sunday is $132,181.
