SEAWAY STAKES | PURSE: $150,000 | GRADE: 3 | 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP | 7 FURLONGS

ETOBICOKE, Ontario -- Atlantic Hurricane upset 2-5 favorite Embur's Song while winning her first stakes in the Grade 3, $162,500 Seaway at Woodbine Saturday.

Under Emile Ramsammy, Atlantic Hurricane linked up on the early lead with Embur's Song in the seven-furlong Polytrack sprint. Patrick Husbands eased Embur's Song back into an outside stalking position after an opening quarter in 22.85. Embur's Song rejoined Atlantic Hurricane on the lead heading into the turn during a half in 46.14, and they proceeded to duel until late stretch, where Atlantic Hurricane edged away to prevail by three-quarters of a length in 1:21.88. She paid $11.50.

Rashnaa nosed out Amiable Grace to finish a distant third in a field reduced to seven after the scratches of Comic Marvel and Dance to the Moon.

Atlantic Hurricane is unbeaten in three starts since trainer Stuart Simon claimed the Florida import for $40,000 in June. The Seaway was her four straight win, and the first three of those scores came on the grass.

"We thought that she could be handy on the turf, especially," said Simon, when asked why he claimed her. "Quite a few of those Florida turf horses have been doing well here, and we thought that if she matured, that she could work out to be a good horse."
