For the third consecutive year, the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes at Del Mar will have one division on Wednesday's opening day of the 37-day meeting.
Mr. Commons, third in Santa Anita Derby and eighth in the Preakness Stakes on May 21, will be favored. The one-mile turf race drew 14 but will be limited to 10 starters. The race was divided into two divisions annually from 1989 to 2008, and into three divisions in 2007. There were 26 nominations for this year's race, but the race did not draw sufficient entries for two divisions. The field, from the rail, comprises Akkadian, Burns, Mr. Commons, Fort Hastings, Moment of Weakness, Temple's Door, Robbie's War, Extensive, Macho Dorado and Chosen Miracle. The also-eligible list comprises Saddleranch, Anakin, Every Ego, and Dr Green. Extensive was third in the Arlington Classic at Arlington Park on May 28. Del Mar drew a 10-race program for Wednesday, which begins at 2 p.m., Pacific.
