Goldikova opened Royal Ascot with an aristocratic performance in the Queen Anne Stakes as she held off the late-charging Paco Boy by a head in the one-mile Group 1 contest.

Perfectly placed in third by Olivier Peslier, the 11-8 Goldikova cruised to the lead inside the quarter pole as Richard Hughes waited for room aboard the 11-4 Paco Boy. Goldikova was quickly clear but when the gap came, Paco Boy made a bold late bid, albeit one that Goldikova was able to repel.

The Freddie Head-trained daughter of Anabaa has now won nine Group or Grade 1 races, six of them against males.
