ETOBICOKE, Ontario -- Havelock prevailed in a four-horse win photo of longshots in Sunday's Grade 2, $204,400 Play the King Stakes, a prep for next month's Grade 1 Woodbine Mile.

Havelock, based at Churchill Downs with trainer Darrin Miller, pressed the pace along the inside under Jermaine Bridgmohan in the seven-furlong turf sprint. Fatal Bullet set moderate fractions over the firm going, and held the lead until deep stretch, where Havelock surged to score by a head, in a time of 1:21.56. Riding the River closed to nose out Fatal Bullet for third, and Gypsy Ring was another neck back in fourth. Signature Red, the lukewarm favorite, was a wide eighth in the 12-horse field.

Havelock ($39.30) headed a superfecta that returned $26,670 for 20 cents. He collected $120,000 for Silverton Hill LLC, which won the July 16 Arlington Sprint Handicap with him under Bridgmohan.

"He's a never-say-die kind of horse," said Miller. "Jermaine, for whatever reason, gets along fantastically with him. He hasn't put a bad ride on him. I was worried about the inside post, but he made the right call and put him where he needed to be. He called on him, and the horse ran for him."
