Rapid Redux, who set a record for horse based in the continental United States with his 20th consecutive victory last month at Mountaineer Racetrack, will take aim at another record Tuesday at Laurel Park.

The 5-year-old Rapid Redux, trained by David Wells and owned by Robert Cole, will go for his 19th win of 2011 in Tuesday's sixth race at Laurel, a starter allowance for horses who have run for a claiming price of $5,000 or less the past two seasons. The 1 1/16-mile race drew six other runners, including Zosogood, a winner of three straight races at Monmouth Park since mid-October.

Horsephotos.comRapid Redux looks to hit the record books. As part of his Triple Crown campaign in 1948, Citation won 19 races, matching the single-season total by the Hall of Famer Roseben as a 4-year-old in 1905. Rapid Redux can tie that post 19th-century mark for a Thoroughbred based in the continental United States.

Camarero, the Puerto Rican Hall of Famer who holds the modern day record of 56 consecutive victories between April 1953 and August 1955, also holds the North American modern day record for wins in a single season with 29 in 1955. Camarero also won 19 during his 1954 campaign.

Including racing from the 19th century in the U.S., Jorrocks won 30 races in 1833, Luke Blackburn won 22 in 1880, and Fisherman, a foal of 1853, won 21 races in one season.

Cole claimed Rapid Redux at Penn National for $6,250 on October 13, 2010. The win streak began December 2, 2010 at Penn National. Since then, the gelding has won 21 of 22 races with earnings of $246,694.

Cole and trainer David Wells have sent their star to seven different tracks at distances from five furlongs to 1 1/8 miles, using seven riders. J.D. Acosta, who has been aboard six times during the streak, has the mount for Tuesday's race, when Rapid Redux will break from the rail.
