SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Royal Delta easily avenged her third-place finish behind It's Tricky and Plum Pretty four weeks earlier in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks with a convincing 5 1/2-length victory in Saturday's Grade 1 Alabama.

Racing well placed and rating nicely off a moderate pace set by Plum Pretty, Royal Delta struck quickly when eased outside and set down at the head of the stretch by jockey Jose Lezcano. Royal Delta readily ran by the leaders inside the eighth pole and despite lugging in sharply to the rail once moving clear at midstretch, was able to steadily increase her advantage to the wire.

It'sTricky, winner of both the Acorn and American Oaks in her last two starts, was easily second best, finishing three lengths in front of longshot Pinch Pie. Plum Pretty had little left after setting the pace for nine furlongs, tiring to finish fourth. St. John's River and a disappointing Inglorious rounded out the order of finish.

Royal Delta a 3-year-old homebred daughter of Empire Maker, is trained by Bill Mott for her owner, Palides Investments. She completed 1 1/4 miles in 2:03.13 seconds over a fast track and paid $13.
