ARCADIA, Calif. -- The Grade 1 stakes winners Sidney's Candy and The Usual Q.T. will miss expected starts in the $300,000 Frank Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita on March 5 because of minor injuries, their trainers said.

Sidney's Candy is suffering from a quarter crack in his right front foot, trainer John Sadler said Wednesday. The Grade 1 Kilroe Mile was scheduled to be Sidney's Candy's first start since an easy win in the Grade 3 Sir Beaufort Stakes on Dec. 26.

"It's not that bad, but it's cost me the training I think I need for a Grade 1 race," Sadler said of the injury. "It's bad timing."

Owned by Jenny Craig, Sidney's Candy has won 6 of 11 starts and five stakes, including the Santa Anita Derby last April.

An abscess will keep The Usual Q.T. from the Kilroe, trainer Jim Cassidy said. A 5-year-old who won the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby in 2009 and the Grade 1 Eddie Read Stakes at Del Mar last year, The Usual Q.T. was second in the Sunshine Millions Turf here Jan. 29.

Cassidy said The Usual Q.T. will be pointed to the $150,000 Arcadia Stakes over a mile on April 9.

Astrology works toward 3-year-old debut

Astrology, winner of the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes for 2-year-olds at Churchill Downs last fall, breezed five furlongs in 1:02.60 on Wednesday. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Astrology has had four workouts this month since resuming serious training.

Astrology closed at 48-1 in the first round of the Kentucky Derby Future wager last weekend. The next stakes for the division in Southern California is the $250,000 San Felipe Stakes over 1 1/16 miles on March 12, though Asmussen said earlier this month that a race had not been chosen.

Jockey race getting tight at the top

The race for the jockey's title has tightened. Through Monday, defending champion Rafael Bejarano has a one-race lead on Joel Rosario, 50-49, but needed two wins Monday to retake the lead after Rosario won four races Sunday.

Rosario leads all riders with 11 stakes wins, four more than Bejarano. Rosario is within eight of equaling the all-time record of 19 at a Santa Anita winter-spring meeting shared by Laffit Pincay Jr. (1982-83) and Corey Nakatani (1996-97).

This weekend, in stakes for statebreds, Rosario is booked to ride Ultra Blend in Saturday's $100,000 Valentine Dancer Handicap for females over a mile on turf and Hot Damon in Sunday's $100,000 Sensational Star Handicap for turf sprinters.
