Sidney's Candy made a successful debut for his new connections, leading every step of the way under John Velazquez to win Sunday's Grade 2, $150,000 Fourstardave Handicap by 1 1/4 lengths at Saratoga.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Sidney's Candy made a successful debut for his new connections, leading every step of the way under John Velazquez to win Sunday's Grade 2, $150,000 Fourstardave Handicap by 1 1/4 lengths at Saratoga.

Moryba, who chased Sidney's Candy all the way around the track, finished second, one-half length in front of Beau Choix.

Sidney's Candy, a son of Candy Ride, was making his first start since being purchased by WinStar Farm and Rubio Stable and turned over to Todd Pletcher.

Under John Velazquez, Sidney's Candy set fractions of 25.83 seconds, 50.49, 1:14.35, 1:37.40 and he covered the 1 1-16 miles over firm turf in 1:43.25.

Sidney's Candy, who returned $2.60 as the overwhelming favorite, is now 7 for 14 in his career and increased his earnings to $1,043,560. He gave Pletcher his second win of the day and 13th of the meet. Pletcher has two runners remaining on the card, including Super Espresso in the Grade 1 Ruffian Invitational Handicap.
