SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Whitney Handicap winner Tizway returned to the work tab Wednesday morning, breezing four furlongs in 49.69 seconds over the Oklahoma training track.

Saratoga clockers caught him in fractions of 12.90 seconds for the first eighth and 25.07 for the opening quarter.

"It was his first work back  just test the engine and make sure there's still some gasoline in it," said trainer James Bond. "Everybody seems to be happy so far."

Bond said Tizway would likely work every seven to eight days leading up to the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on Oct. 1.

Friend Or Foe to skip Woodward

Friend Or Foe, the fourth-place finisher in the Whitney, will not run back in the Woodward on Sept. 3, trainer John Kimmel said Friday.

As high on Friend Or Foe as Kimmel was entering the Whitney, he was disappointed by the colt's performance and doesn't want to run him back here. Kimmel said he will target the Jockey Club Gold Cup for Friend Or Foe's next start.

"He didn't come close to running the performance I expected. Maybe the track had something to do with it," Kimmel said. "I know he can run fresh. I'm going to wait to run him downstate over a track he's basically undefeated on.

Jim Dandy winner Kensei euthanized

Kensei, winner of the Grade 2 Jim Dandy in 2009, was euthanized after he sustained a broken right front cannon bone during a routine gallop at Belmont Park Tuesday, according to a New York Racing Association press release.

Kensei, a 5-year-old son of Mr. Greeley owned by Stonestreet Stables and trained by Steve Asmussen, had a record of 5 wins, 4 seconds, and 2 thirds from 18 starts and earned $751,364. He won the Grade 2 Dwyer at Belmont in 2009 and the Grade 3 Salvator Mile at Monmouth Park earlier this summer.

Stewards take Curatolo off a winner

The stewards took Ryan Curatolo off She Drives Me Wild, his mount in Wednesday's sixth race because he had refused to ride a horse on which he was named earlier on the card.

Curatolo was named to ride Blue Sixty Four in race 2, but refused to ride, according to NYRA steward Jr. In turn, the stewards took Curatolo off She Drives Me Wild, who won the race under Jose Lezcano.

"You can't refuse to ride one and ride the other," Baeza said. "You can't pick and choose who you want to ride."
