Oh, I'd be so rich if only "almost wins" counted for something. In the Kentucky Derby I "almost" won every bet I made. Sadly, no one offered me anything but an army of sly smiles and "better luck next times." But that was two weeks ago and today is Preakness day, which brings new opportunities to win, while watching some the world's best three year olds race for glory.

The overwhelming and justifiable favorites for the Preakness are Bodemeister and I'll Have Another. Bodemeister probably won't have to deal with the pace he fell prey to in the Derby, which should allow him to control the pace. I'll Have Another is likely to stay close to Bodemeister and, if he can put some extra pressure on Bodemeister, may be able to win by tiring him out.

Unfortunately, both the favorites are likely to be so heavily bet down by post time that the only way to make any money off The Preakness is to bet against them. I'll be using Creative Cause and Went The Day Well in most of my bets and hoping the two favorites run each other out. My longshot horse will be Teeth Of The Dog. Of course, these being three year olds, you really can't tell who will suddenly show a step up in ability, but it really looks like this is a two horse race.
