Mark Valeski is a Proud Citizen and Pocho's Dream Girl colt. In 5 career starts he has two wins and two places, with his most recent being a second place finish in the Louisiana Derby. His finish in the Louisiana Derby netted him $200,000 in extra earnings and he sits at 21st in the earnings list as of this writing. There's still a few prep races left that could shake things up, but he'll need a break to run on May 5th.
"Apparently he pulled a shoe in the post parade; Rosie said he didn't warm up as well as he did for his last race," Jones said. "Also, it looked like he also got hit on a back heel early in the race. But all is well now. He's still on the Derby trail. If he has enough earnings he'll go, if he doesn't then we're just going to take that as a sign that he wasn't meant to run."
I like this horse and I really like jockey Rosie Napravnik. He's going to need some luck to run in the Kentucky Derby but should he miss the Derby we'll be keeping an eye on him for the Preakness.
