Flashback is a Tapit and Rhumb Line colt. He won the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G2) back in February and followed that up with second place finishes in the San Felipe (G2) and the Santa Anita Derby (G1). It will be up to trainer Bob Baffert and owners Gary and Mary West to determine if he rides in Kentucky on the first Saturday in May.
Flashback was ridden by jockey Garrett Gomez in the Santa Anita Derby instead of regular jockey Julien Leparoux. Coming out of the first post has never been Gomez' strong suit but he still put in a strong enough performance to place. Leparoux will be aboard Todd Pletcher trained Java's War in the Run for the Roses, which means Garrett will likely return for the Derby should Flashback run. We hope he doesn't end up on the inside again.
