Newly crowned Horse of the Year California Chrome drilled seven furlongs at Los Alamitos Race Course Jan. 19 as he continues preparations for his expected 2015 debut next month in the $500,000 San Antonio Stakes.
In an eventful running of the $150,000 Smarty Jones at Oaklawn on Monday, Far Right (Notional) flew up the inside to seize victory.
Off the early pace through the opening stages, Sam's Sister came running off the turn and wore down front-runner Sweet Marini to win in the $200,000 Santa Monica Stakes , her second straight graded stakes victory, Jan. 19 at Santa Anita Park.
With five stakes placings to his credit, Mr. Z is still on the lookout for his first black-type victory. The D. Wayne Lukas trainee's first ship might come in Monday when he heads a field of nine in the $150,000 Smarty Jones at Oaklawn Park.
