Favored Merry Meadow turned what was shaping up as a match race with More Than a Party on the turn into a romping 9-1/2-length victory in the $150,000 Hurricane Bertie Stakes Feb. 14 at Gulfstream Park.
The graded stakes debut for Maryland-based Lady Sabelia in the $300,000 Barbara Fritchie Handicap was a runaway success at Laurel Park Feb. 14 as Mrs. Frank P. Wright's homebred led gate to wire.
Warren's Veneda claimed her first graded stakes victory with a wide closing drive in the $200,000 Santa Maria Stakes Feb. 14 at Santa Anita Park, continuing a path of improvement for the 5-year-old mare by Affirmative.
Metaboss, coming from well off the pace with a powerful wide move, went from maiden winner to Triple Crown prospect with his victory in the $200,000 El Camino Real Derby Feb. 14 at Golden Gate Fields.
Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens earned his 5000th win on Friday at Santa Anita Park.
