The mood around Barn 9 on Friday was odd, as many laughs as tears -- less disappointment than a jolt back to the lives all had been leading five weeks ago.
Favored Redeemed overcame an outside post to lead every step of the way in the $200,000 Brooklyn Handicap, romping to victory by 10 lengths at Belmont Park June 8.
News broke slowly at first, murmured around the backside at Belmont Park and shared between trainers and jockey agents, those in the know.
Dullahan was made the new 9-5 favorite for Saturday's Belmont after I'll Have Another was retired with a tendon injury a day before his attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner in 34 years.
Doug O'Neill, the trainer for Triple Crown hopeful I'll Have Another, told "The Dan Patrick Show" that the horse "is officially out of the Belmont."
Trainer Doug O'Neill called an audible and sent Triple Crown hopeful I'll Have Another out for a final gallop in secrecy the day before the Belmont Stakes.
