Belmont Stakes is the last of the three legs of horse racing's, "Triple Crown," the Holy Grail of accomplishments in this wonderful sport! This epic track which creates legends & smashes dreams is located in Elmont, New York, a tad bit east from Queens. The track consists of dirt and measures out at a 1 1/2 miles, the longest of the three Triple Crown races. On June 6th, 2015, the 147th running of the 1.5 Million Dollar Belmont Stakes will take place with a Triple Crown Contender looking to capture this elite award for the first time in 37 years by the name of American Pharoah.

Jockeys have to be in EXCELLENT shape. Their are actually racing schools where jockeys can see if they have what it takes to ride a half ton horse around the track. All jockeys run through the simulator fitness assessment which runs through several skill-sets on the nicest courses.

Its important that horses have all of the basic characteristics down pat before even attempting barrel racing. A strong foundation is important in barrel racing as the horse is moving at high speeds and expected to make quick turns while traveling at a super fast velocity.

Horse Racing is a colorful sport. One aspect I have always enjoyed are the unique and tongue and cheek names. No other sport will there be a name like "Pants on Fire," "Miss Sea Cup," "Isitingood," or "Beer Me." While you may hear some of this jargon in your local bar, its highly unlikely they will be used in any other sports capacity.
