Mark Russell's popular 8-year-old gelding Russell Road, who hadn't won since May, turned the tables on heavy favorite Lucy's Bob Boy to win the West Virginia Breeders' Classic Oct. 18 for the third time in his career. It was his 28th career win.
Taris blazed to the lead and kept on going in the $250,000 Lexus Raven Run Stakes Oct. 18, drawing off to an authoritative 9-length score in the seven-furlong sprint at Keeneland.
Dual classic hero California Chrome had his penultimate drill for the Classic on Saturday, going six furlongs at his Los Alamitos headquarters in 1:12 1/5 over the fast track.
